The trading area encompassed by Chase includes the communities of Adams Lake, Sorrento, Scotch Creek, Celista Anglemont and Pritchard. The population of the entire area is approximately 12,000.
Pritchard
Pritchard is an unincorporated area located 15 kilometres west of Chase on the Trans Canada Highway #1. The community straddles the Thompson River and is surrounded by agricultural land, much of which is used to grow hay, onions, potatoes, and a new cherry and apple orchard. Stables are also a significant part of the local economy offering lessons, boarding facilities and trail rides. Pritchard is host to a service station and a general store that provides a range of services including gas, propane, liquor agent, postal outlet and groceries. Residents of the area use Chase as their primary source for services.
Sorrento
Sorrento is located 22 kilometres east of Chase on the Trans Canada Highway #l and lies directly across the lake from the North Shore. Sorrento offers basic services; however, residents rely on Chase for larger purchases and services. Sorrento is host to a bank, insurance agent, grocery store, service stations, hotels and motels and an elementary school. Little River Boat World, a full-service marina that provides boat sales, rentals and a launch, is located in Sorrento.
Adams Lake
Adams Lake is located 25 kilometres outside of Chase on the Adams Lake Road, 15 kilometres west of the Squilax-Anglemont Highway. The community is host to the Adams Lake Lumber Mill and a general store. Adams Lake is primarily a cottage community on Adams Lake Indian Band land, with some year-round residents.
North Shore (North Shuswap)
Anglemont, Celista and Scotch Creek reside in an area known as the North Shore, approximately 36 kilometres off Trans Canada Highway #1 on the Squilax-Anglemont Highway. These communities lie on the northern side of Shuswap Lake with Scotch Creek as the centre of activity. Although traditionally these communities have been summer retreats, they have now become year-round communities that support an ever-increasing population.
Scotch Creek
In Scotch Creek, one can find a gas station, a grocery store that serves as a post office and liquor distribution branch, a drugstore and a number of other retail businesses that cater to summer tourists. A doctor and dentist reside and practice in the area and a real estate office is now open. There are plans to construct a new mall in the near future. Captain’s Village Marina is the largest marina and you can find a boat launch, boat rentals and a retail store that sells recreational items. The major draw in the area is the Shuswap Lake Provincial Park. This park has been rated as the most popular campground in BC to stay at and is at full capacity from May till September. Approximately 700 campers are staying in the campground at any given time and they provide a huge boost to the local economies of Scotch Creek and Chase.
