Notice of Construction – Utilities Upgrades

Beginning March 15 through April 30, 2023, there will be a 24-hour closure at the intersection of Cottonwood Street and Shepherd Avenue (indicated with a green box on the Work Plan map above). It is anticipated that this will remain in place for approximately six (6) weeks to support utilities upgrades.

Residents whose access will be affected by the closure will be provided separate notification and direction regarding alternate access. Regular foot and vehicle traffic, including emergency services and school buses, will use the detour route via Coburn Street, Cedar Avenue and Cottonwood Street indicated on the Work Plan map to access schools, residences, businesses and services regularly accessed off of Shuswap Avenue via Mason Street, Bell Street and Shepherd Road.

Beginning March 15 through March 28, 2023, for approximately fourteen (14) days there will be a second, concurrent 24-hour road closure at the east end of Mason Street at Shuswap Ave (indicated with a red box on the Work Plan map). One lane of travel in each direction will be available on Shuswap Avenue for the duration of the closure, but the intersection between Shuswap and Mason will not be accessible to vehicles or pedestrians. Access to businesses and residences on Mason will be maintained via Bell Street to Shepherd Road to the west end of Mason Street (see Work Plan map for detail). Access to businesses and residences on Shuswap will be unaffected by this closure.

Some residents and businesses south of this Shuswap/Mason work area will receive a second written Notice with details on the timing and duration of a water service interruption that is required for the utilities upgrade at the Shuswap/Mason intersection in late April. CIF will provide this Notice a minimum of two business days in advance of the interruption so that you are able to plan accordingly.

The third work area in the scope of this Notice will be from the Shepherd Road/Cottonwood Street intersection southwest to the pedestrian footpath adjacent to the school (indicated by a yellow box on the Work Plan map). This will begin when the work on Mason Street has been completed and will take approximately five (5) days, for which period the residents of the Shepherd Road strata will receive an additional notice on alternate vehicle parking and access.

For the duration the work described above, you can expect to see and hear heavy equipment, construction vehicles and ground workers in the highlighted work zones. There will be fenced or barricaded excavations up to three (3) metres deep as well as stockpiles of pipe-related materials and supplies, traffic control zones, traffic control persons and signage at various locations on the roads through and around the work zones.

The existing Coburn Street closure opposite Foothills Road on Highway #1 will remain in place for the full duration of this work.
