The Village of Chase operates the Chase Cemetery located on Foothills Road, offering traditional in-ground burial for both casket and cremated remains. We offer services for when a death occurs and accommodate those planning a placement for the future.

Burial & Cremation Options

Deciding how to memorialize the loss of someone is emotional and can be overwhelming. Choices can be guided by past family tradition, religious practice, cultural considerations, and personal preference. There are many ways to be memorialized. Here are options offered by the Village of Chase:

Administration and Visiting Hours

Administration of the cemetery is managed by Village staff at the Village Office (826 Okanagan Avenue) during regular business hours, excluding statutory holidays.

Cemetery Bylaw and Regulations

In British Columbia, cemeteries are regulated by the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act and the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act.


The Village’s Cemetery Bylaw No. 608-2001 provides procedures and processes for the following:

  • Location and Size of Grave Spaces
  • License to Use the Cemetery
  • Permission to Inter, Exhume and Cremate
  • Interment in the Cemetery
  • Caretaker
  • Administration
  • Care Fund
  • Memorials
  • General Information
  • Enforcement and Penalties


Here are some of the common terms when dealing with memorials: 

  • Cemetery Care Fund: a portion of the burial costs are set aside for the maintenance of the cemetery.
  • Columbaria: an above ground granite structure for cremated remains. 
  • Grave Liner: a ridged shell structure to cover a casket for a grave interment (burial).
  • Niche: a recess hole in a wall of a mausoleum or columbarium used or intended to be used for the inurnment of cremated remains.
  • Plot: a space of ground in a cemetery used, or intended to be used, for the burial of human or cremated remains.
