Property Tax Information

Home Owner Grant

The homeowner grant is available to eligible homeowners who pay property taxes. Effective 2021, homeowners in municipalities no longer apply for the homeowner grant through their municipal office. Everyone now applies directly to the province using a new online system that’s easy to use. The system will be available in early 2021. Although the application process has changed, program details and eligibility requirements have not changed. The new system helps ensure homeowners receive their full grant entitlement, including the additional grant for seniors or persons with a disability. It also helps process applications faster and reduce fraudulent applications.

For more information about the home owner grant phone 1 888 355 2700 or visit: gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.

To apply you’ll need your social insurance number and roll number for the property you are applying for!

YOUR JURISDICTION NUMBER IS: 512

Defer Your Property Taxes

Tax deferment is a low interest loan program that helps qualified B.C. homeowners pay their annual property taxes on their principal residence.  For more information, visit Property Tax Deferment Program.

BC Assessment Authority

Your property assessment significantly influences the amount of property tax you pay.

You will receive your property assessment notice from BC Assessment each year in January. Your property is assessed to determine its:

  • Value
  • Classification
  • Exemptions (if any apply)

You may appeal your property assessment value by making an application to the BC Assessment Authority.

For information regarding your property assessment, contact:
BC Assessment office at 1 800-919-9918 or www.bcassessment.ca

Assessment Information

The local office is Kamloops Assessment. Property Assessment Notices are mailed out in January.

Property assessments are carried out by BC Assessment and their website at www.bcassessment.ca offers a variety of useful tools such as:

  • A great tool to compare your assessment to similar properties in the neighbourhood.  It can be found on BC Assessment’s Interactive Map (updated on January 4, 2021);
  • News releases and up to date Assessment information;
  • An online Notice of Complaint (Appeal) form is available during the month of January on BC Assessment’s Forms page.  This allows property owners to request an independent review of their property value.
